The “Calidarium” is a good resting place after a long and amusing excursion along Sibillini Mountain, it is also a wonderful shelter from the hot summer day and the cold autumn’s wind.
THE ORIGINS
The Roman Structure
Originally the Roman “Calidarium” was a circled or squared pool system, heated with braziers.
Then they evolved, and they created the first hot water heating system, with hot running water along the walls and the floor, very close to the system that we use nowdays. Our structure it’s build with a similar system and in the same stile.
A DIVE INTO THE PAST
Curiosity
The structure where the “Calidarium” is located, maintain the original roof, with original vault, it was originally used as “Gualchiera” (“Folle” in local dialect), this term was used for the whole structure and the mechanism, used for either wool fulling.
The structure worked with mill system, using water power and pressure to move the wheel, that activated a tool, similar to a big hammer, that beat on woven obtaining their fulling, in order to get it impervious.
